Location: Tauranga, Bay of Plenty
Project Type: Residential
System Installed: 8.1 kW Solar PV System with Deye Hybrid Inverter
Installer: Solar Hub NZ
Project Background
This customer sought to take control of their household energy usage at their property in the Bay of Plenty. As energy prices continued to rise and climate awareness grew, they wanted a reliable and sustainable solution that would lower costs and reduce their environmental footprint. With Solar Hub’s strong track record in residential solar and its commitment to full-service delivery, they found the right partner to bring their vision to life.
The Challenge
The property had substantial energy demands, consuming over 11,700 kWh annually. The homeowners were facing rising utility bills and a growing desire to increase their energy independence. A key challenge was designing a system that could maximise solar self-consumption while still delivering export value to the grid and making use of the available roof space efficiently.
The Solar Hub Solution
Solar Hub NZ installed an 8.1kW solar power system tailored for performance and long-term savings:
Solar Panels: 18x JA Solar 450W Bifacial Double Glass panels (total 8.1kW)
Inverter: Deye SUN-5K-SG04LP1-AU Hybrid Inverter with 5kW output
Estimated Annual Generation: ~9,787 kWh
Orientation: 285° azimuth and 20° slope
The west-facing orientation helped maximise production during afternoon and evening hours, aligning with peak household usage and increasing self-consumption.

Outcome / Results
The solar system now meets over 80% of the property’s annual electricity needs, with lifetime net savings projected to exceed $100,000.
Key highlights:
Estimated Lifetime Savings: Over $100,000
Total Return on Investment: 729%
Payback Period: Under 5 years
Environmental Benefit: 1 tonne CO₂ offset per year
Equivalent of: 215 trees planted or 105,000+ car kilometres avoided
